new stuff!

August 13th, 2008

Ah, the new Scootababy hip carriers are here! I want to take a picture but I’m a mess from painting. SO cute and fun a pretty. I’ll wax on and on a bit more later.

Here’s a nice picture of 29 Palms - my personal favorite is Piccaddilly though.

And, our agreement with a certain company has just been approved - look for an official announcement after our first order arrives next month!

Babywearing makes me fall in love with Cormac all over again. When he rides on my back he snuggles his face into my back and just relaxes hi whole body. This sweet, incredibly energetic 3 year-old stops wiggling and just rides. When he was little and rode on my front I could just reach around and hug him while he slept.

There is something magic about babywearing, about the carrier that that just “clicks” for you. You wrap it around your body and your baby just sighs and falls asleep. I watched it happen with K and her sweet little baby L at today’s open house. She tried 2 mei tais that sort of worked and then an Ellaroo wrap that just “clicked” for them both. L looked around for a little bit and then just relaxed and fell asleep.

YouTube baby carrier channels

August 5th, 2008

Ah, I love the convenience and the size of YouTube videos. When i was learning to wrap the videos on Mamatoto were wonderful (despite the sound of the wind blowing) they were teeny tiny and I had to squint to watch them. I love that YouTube videos are big enough to see actual detail!

Anyway, here are a couple of great YouTube channels, collections of videos all on the same theme.

The first is the Zolowear channel, all kinds of great tutorials on how to use Zolowear slings. They have 39 videos posted, as of this writing, and I’m sure Zolo has more in the works. I love how thorough their customer service is. Here’s one on getting the top rail snug that I particularly like

Zolowear - top rail

The second channel is owned by a member of thebabywear.com forums - she has put together a huge collection of babywearing videos from across YouTube. Hers is a great community service and is called the Babywearing Channel and is a fantastic resource of an any sling, pouch, wrap, mei tai, or structured carrier owner.

Look for a Peekaru vest back carry video from us before too long! In the meantime, we have a short list of Beco Butterfly how-to videos on our website. A link can be found from the Beco Butterfly page on McKinley Kidz and in the articles section of the website. Here it is now for your convenience!

Cormac’s carrier observations

August 5th, 2008

“Mommy, these are baby carriers. And babies slobber on baby carriers. And people wear babies on their backs. And Daddy wears Cormac like this (puts his arms out behind him) and Mommy, you wear Cormac like this (puts his arms in front of him). Yeah.”

Kevin and Cormac hit the trail

Kevin and Cormac hit the trail

We just created a new category for your shopping pleasure! Everything “dad friendly” primarily meaning color and pattern, because style is a matter of personal tast, has been consolidated. In our family, Kevin did about 40% (though he’ll say more) of the babywearing. he wore Cormac in pouches and soft-structured carriers all the time - he still does. So, here’s what we think all of you guys will like best.

Scootababy update

July 23rd, 2008

The new version of the Scootababy will be available for pre-order soon.

Scootababy has undergone a makeover and we are so excited to be getting the new line later this summer. There are some differences between the original Scootababy™ and new design. Here are the major changes:

  1. Added stretchy binding on the edges of the fleece shoulder - makes for an even better fit
  2. Removed the binding on the shoulder straps to help them slide more easily through the buckles
  3. The seat back is approx 1-1.5 inch taller  by popular demand
  4. Waist belt webbing is approximately 2 inches longer to accomodate plus-sized babywearers
  5. The construction of the seat is now three vertical panels, versus three horizontal pieces which makes it fit better and it’s easier to get baby deeply seated in the seat pouch

Other quality details that aren’t visible include interior reinforcement for the leg openings and an extra structural layer under the center print panel.  The lining will be the same in all of the new Scootababy carriers and is plush quilted microfiber.  Scootababy worked with a children’s clothing designer to bring consumers a gorgeous variety of prints.  I saw the new line at the Babywearing Conference and just totally fell in love.

new carriers in stock now

May 31st, 2008

Action Baby Carriers and Beco Butterfly carriers and in-stock and on the way, respectively.

a few updates

May 6th, 2008

The new Action Pack from Active Mom Carriers are amazingly comfortable and one of the new fabrics (the prettiest one) is named after me! My order is placed and I should receive them around the 15th of May. There are a variety of prints from which to choose and several solids as well.

The classic Freehand mei tai is back after being purchased by TogetherBe, the maker of Peekaru vests. The fabrics are gorgeous and this is such a wonderful newborn mei tai with the padding for baby’s head at the top of the panel. My order for these is placed and they will ship on May 15th.

May Beco Butterflys are coming soon . The release date forthe new prints and preorders is May 15th and they start shipping May 29th. This is my favorite set of prints for the Butterfly yet and I can’t wait until these prints become public!
